The Rei Miro was a symbol of power among the ancient kings. It represents the ship in which, according to legend, the great king, Hotu Matu’a, arrived to Rapa Nui. Today, this symbol in red on a white background is the flag of Easter Island, that can be seen proudly waving in some of the local houses, on the cars and at the festivals.
